LD366 "OUGHT NOT TO PASS" |
LD 366 was voted "ought not to pass" in a workshop session on Tuesday, March 17, 2009. The Business, Research and Economic Development committee quickly voted on the bill upon receipt of MeSSA's agreement to poll its membership, explore options, and formulate a new bill to be presented in the second session of this legislature. As of June 1, we are prepared to meet with the Consumer Credit Protection Bureau to discuss our poll results and language for the new bill. MEMBERS ONLY: Thank you for submitting your surveys to help shape a new law for the handling of confidential records. The results have been submitted to the Maine Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection. We are awaiting a meeting date to discuss possible language for a law that will be mutually agreeable. IF YOU ARE NOT A MEMBER AND WANT YOUR VOICE TO BE HEARD, DOWNLOAD A MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION FROM THE "JOIN US" LINK AND BE A PART OF THIS EXCITING PROCESS. OUR NEXT MEETING FOR MEMBERS ONLY WILL BE IN SEPTEMBER, DATE AND LOCATION TBA. |

SCOTT ZUCKER RETURNS TO MAINE! |

Due to the success of our 2008 Legal Workshop, MeSSA is very pleased to announce that Attorney Scott Zucker, of Atlanta law firm Weissmann & Zucker, P.C., will be returning to Maine to present a second legal workshop. The last workshop was such a big success, that members wanted to have Scott return for another information packed day. MeSSA members chose the topics of interest which Scott addressed, and followed up with plenty of Q&A time. For a “breather” we enjoyed some Maine humor with Gary Crocker, who decided to have a little fun with the “Attorney from Away”! With great food and plenty of Maine-made door prizes, all who were present enjoyed an informative day. Scott Zucker, along with Attorney Carlos Kaslow, operates the Self Storage Legal Network, a benefit available to direct members of SSA. Scott authored Legal Topics in Self Storage and is a presenter in many workshops and webinars. Save the date of October 15, 2009 for this not-to-miss event! Bring your legal questions! Non-members are welcome to attend as space permits. Call 490-1160 for more information. |
