New Tax on Self Storage Rent-Update! |
|
To All Maine Self Storage Facilities: Update: Enough signatures were gathered on the petitions that were circulated, and after much waiting, the signatures were finally verified and approved. The question re: rejecting the new tax law will be on the ballot in June 2010. Contact Still Fed Up With Taxes to find out how you can help. Self Storage facilities were unfairly included in this “tax on services” law and we were the only real property rental classification to be included in the new sales tax law. Just as important to note, this law was called a “tax reform” law when in effect it has taken taxes from one place and put the burden somewhere else. It may temporarily lower the income taxes for some people, but it will increase the sales taxes forever. These changes will hit our customers hard at a time when they are already struggling by taxing many of the services and amusements that they partake of. It will affect all of us, too. Thank you to our many members who participated in this effort thus far. It is more important than ever to become united as a group and be heard in Augusta. We can make a difference. Contact
